Original Medicare is made up in two parts. Part A and Part B. See descriptions below. In addition, Part D Prescription Drug Plans are available to help cover the cost of medications. All of these programs come with specific application guidelines. There are associated penalties if these guidelines are not met correctly. Individuals may enroll in Original Medicare and add a prescription drug plan to satisfy their health care needs. Original Medicare will have copayments, deductibles and co-insurance for all but the annual screenings and preventative services listed by Medicare. (medicare.gov) Knowing what the Medicare program covers and what costs are shared will be necessary for you to make good Medicare coverage choices.
Medicare Part A
Hospital Coverage: Covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. Medicare Part A is free to a majority those qualified to participate with the program. See link for details(medicare.gov).
Medicare Part B
Medical insurance: Covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. Medicare Part B has a monthly premium based on government tables for participants. (medicare.gov).

The Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) starts 3 months prior to age 65, during the month turning 65 and ends 3 months after turning 65.
